The About Myself section should help someone understand your day-to-day life and priorities. It is not a résumé and it does not need to prove that you are perfect.
A good version is usually four to six sentences. Write in the first person, use ordinary language, and include only details you are comfortable sharing with another family.
A simple way to write it
Use this order:
- Say what you do and where you are based.
- Mention one or two things that matter to you.
- Add a real interest or routine.
- If useful, say something practical about the life you hope to build.
You do not need to describe every quality. A specific detail is more useful than a long list of words such as “simple,” “honest,” or “hardworking.”
For the full field order, see How to Write a Marriage Biodata.
Six fictional examples to adapt
These are writing examples, not profiles to copy word for word. Replace every detail with your own experience.
1. Working professional
I work as a software engineer in Pune and enjoy solving practical problems at work. Outside work, I make time for reading, evening walks, and family meals. I value calm communication and a home where both people can support each other’s goals.
2. Teacher
I am a school teacher based in Nashik. I enjoy the routine of teaching and the time I spend with my family and friends. I am looking forward to a partnership based on kindness, shared responsibility, and respect for both families.
3. Family-business background
I help manage my family’s textile business in Surat. The work has taught me to be practical and patient, and I enjoy meeting customers and learning how the business can grow. In my free time, I like cricket and short trips with family.
4. Healthcare professional
I am a physiotherapist working in Bengaluru. I care about health, close relationships, and having time away from work for music and travel. I hope to meet someone who values honest conversation and a balanced life.
5. Living away from home
I work in Dubai in the finance sector and stay closely connected with my family in India. I enjoy cooking, visiting new places, and keeping in touch with friends from home. I would like a partner with whom I can make practical decisions about where and how we build a life together.
6. Returning to study
I recently completed my postgraduate studies in Mumbai and am beginning my career in design. I enjoy sketching, films, and spending weekends with cousins and friends. I value curiosity, mutual respect, and a partnership where both people can keep learning.
Make the wording sound like you
Before adding a sentence, ask: would I say this when meeting someone in person? If the answer is no, simplify it.
Instead of this:
I am a simple, honest and caring person with strong values.
Try this:
My family would describe me as calm and dependable. I enjoy cooking on weekends and make time for regular calls with relatives who live in another city.
The second version gives the reader something real to understand and discuss.
What to leave out of an early biodata
Avoid exact home addresses, identity documents, bank details, passwords, or information about another person that they have not agreed to share. A photo is optional. If you include one, use a recent image that you approve for circulation.
You can keep salary, medical, and detailed family information for later conversations if that feels more appropriate for you.
Check that About Myself and partner expectations agree
Your introduction and expectations should not conflict. If work or relocation is important to you, say so clearly but politely in both places. If family time matters a great deal, describe what that means in everyday terms rather than using a vague label.
See Partner Expectations for Marriage Biodata for examples of this section.
Questions people ask
How long should it be?
Aim for about 60 to 100 words. A concise paragraph is easier to read on a phone and leaves room for a real conversation later.
Can a parent write it?
Parents can help with facts, but the person named in the biodata should review and approve the final words. It should sound like them.
Should I use first person?
Usually, yes. “I work,” “I enjoy,” and “I value” sound more natural than a third-person biography.
